CASE STUDIES / FUTURETRONICS STORE
The Project...
Futuretronics is a high-end mobile electronics store chain known for innovative merchandise. To differentiate this retailer, architects conceptualized specialized fixtures showcasing the industrial design of the products and expressing the stores' branding concept of lightness and movement.
The architects approached Móz Designs to execute their unique designs with custom engineering and manufacturing solutions that would meet budget and client constraints.
The Challenges and Solutions...
Dramatic illumination was vital to the project, requiring multiple power supplies throughout the site. Extensive electrical data/communications cables were also needed to activate the products. Forecasting a jungle of wires, Móz engineered a workable wire management system. Cords for snake lights were secured atop the vitrines to spotlight the products from above, yet they were hidden inside the enclosures' metal framework.
Electrical systems for lighting the vitrines' custom colored acrylic bases were intentionally left visible for an industrial look while the bases were laser cut to place custom outlets for powering the products. Since rolling castors could not stabilize the weight of the ten-foot tall glass vitrines, Móz devised a unique bracket system to anchor the wheels while retaining their dynamic image of mobility.
The Results...
Architects and general contractors relied on Móz to value engineer the materials for all fixtures and displays, saving them close to $30,000 on the project. Several vitrines intersect the storefront creating a transparent wall, defining the façade while serving as an extension of the interior encasements and reflecting the cutting-edge nature of the products inside. Inviting customer interest at the point of entry, the sculptural signage integrated into the glass is actually a three-dimensional interpretation of the Futuretronics logo-a distinctive fixture and environmental graphics mix that helped earn the store prestigious award recognition.
